The familiar Largo from the opera Xerses by Handel is entitled Ombra mai fu (Never was shade.) King Xerses sings to a tree, praising its vast beauties - “Never was made a plant more dear and loving or gentle.”
Mozart’s Motet - Ave vernum corpus K.618, one of his final compositions, was originally for Mixed Chorus (SATB), Strings, and Organ.
The piano parts are from earlier editions for cello and violin respectively.
