Twentieth Century Miniatures for Strings (Intermediate Strings), String Quartet or Quintet Score & Parts.
From the Publisher
Originally for young pianists, these short pieces are arranged for advanced beginning or intermediate strings. The master composers include: Bela Bartok (1881 - 1945), Dmitri Kabalevsky (1904 - 1982), Serge Prokofieff (1891 - 1953), Dmitri Shostakovich (1906 - 1975), and Igor Stravinsky (1882 - 1971).
These unique works reinforce the practice of important string techniques and bowing styles. You may play selections as a “suite” with string orchestra or they may be performed in a chamber music setting with string quartet or quintet. The Stravinsky Lento may be played with mutes.
The Miniatures were first published in 1983 as part of the collection 101 Strings (Hansen House).
This edition is respectfully dedicated to the memory ofDr. Samuel Applebaum, friend, colleague, and noted string educator and pedagogue. During our discussions and collaborations, “Sam” helped me crystallize my thoughts about the basic principles of string playing.
