Cyril Scott, English composer and poet, wrote many works for stage, orchestra, chamber music, piano, voice, etc. According to the International Cyclopedia of Music and Musicians, “his music, once of the advanced-guard, now seems curiously dated and belonging to a past phase of harmonic experimentation of a kind that marks only change, not progress.” However, in the early 20th century his music flourished and he had a considerable influence on modem music in England. “Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes” is one of three songs for low voice and piano in a collection entitled Old Songs in New Guise.
