Schubert The Bee (L'abeille), Op. 13/9, for Cello & Piano (ed. Schroeder).
From the Publisher
Franz (Francois) Schubert (1808 - 1878) lived most of his life in Dresden. He played violin in the Dresden Court Orchestra most of his life and was first concertmaster from 1861 — 1873. He was sometimes referred to as “Francois” to distinguish him from the famous Viennese, Franz Peter Schubert (1797 - 1828).
Francois Schubert’s father, Franz Anton Schubert, was music director of the Dresden Italian Opera and also a double bassist and composer.
The Bee, a virtuosic perpetual motion, was originally composed for violin and piano. Whether or not one plays the work in recital, it remains an excellent technical study.
The original piano part edited by Alwin Schroeder is used in both the cello (B0707/C) and the bass (B0707/B) editions. Early 20th century master cellist Alwin Schroeder also edited the cello solo part.
