Okkenhaug Legende for Double Bass and Organ or Piano

The Legende was originally composed for cello and piano for a friend who was a cellist. It was inspired by a text from the Old Testament. When talking to the composer, he told me that he felt the Legende was more powerful when played on the bass. I person­ ally feel that the organ accompaniment is better for the slow, bass melodic line. The use of a rich and colorful register on the organ creates “a magical atmosphere.” A short cadenza is included before the return of the main melody. Also, from the opening line, four mea­ sures are added in the repetition of the main theme, giving the second part a longer line leading to the end.
