From the Publisher
The Wayfaring Stranger, also known as poor Wayfaring Stranger, is a popular American spiritual that originated in the early nineteenth century. It is the song of a sorrowful soul on the journey through life. The Girl I left Behind emerged from Dublin around the turn of the nineteenth century. It is also known as Brighton Camp, a popular tune for Morris dancing. It became popular in America during the Civil War. Both tunes have long been familiar to generations of Appalachian musicians.
