Marais Folies d'Espagne for Solo Double Bass

Marais’ Les Folies for solo flute edited by Hans-Peter Schmitz was the main source for this abridged version for solo double bass. St. Francis Music Publications is most grateful to Mik Groninger for his historical survey of Marais’ original work for viola da gamba and continuo. There are many recordings of the piece; however, the CD entitled La Folia featuring the distinguished gambist Jordi Savall (ALIA VOX-AV 9805) is recommended. This CD also includes versions of La Folia by other composers from 1490-1701.
