Faure Romance in A Major, Op. 69, Double Bass & Piano.
From the Publisher
This transcription for double bass and piano is from Faure's Romance in A Major for Cello and Piano, Opus 69, composed around 1895. This work is among several short compositions written for cello and piano by Faure, the most popular being the Elegie, Op. 24. Faure greatly appreciated the deep sonorities of the cello rather than its high register.
Emile Vuillermoz in his biography of Faure stated that the melodie, the lied and the romance are genres eminently suitable for fostering a close relationship between composer and listener. Their modest dimen sions, which do not curtail conversation for long, their pleasant melodic lines and occasionally the charms of their interpreters, are all in their favor. For Faure, music is a direct and complete language which needs no outside assistance (program notes or descriptions) in order to find its way to the heart.
