Drew Zodiac Suite, for Double Bass

Each of the twelve miniatures is based stylistically on several characteristics of each sign.

The Suite serves as an introduction to contemporary string techniques. The complete work for unaccompanied double bass is recorded by the composer on the CD - 20th Century Sampler for Double Bass (B0109CD).

The Zodiac Suite is dedicated to my wife, Judy, (the Taurus) and to Lynne Idema (the Leo). The composer is grateful to Jody Atwood for writing the verses for each sign. This work should always be approached with wit and a sense of humor.

Also, six of the miniatures are published for solo flute, solo double bass and a chamber ensemble of strings and percussion(Kalmus).

The first complete performance of the Suite was given in a duo version by Charles DeLaney, flute, and the composer, double bass in 1986.
