Drew Four 20th Century Miniatures for Unaccompanied Double Bass: 1. Soliloquies; 2. Sound Study; 3. Scherzo; 4. Pisces.
From the Publisher
The Soliloquies are two reflective studies in pizzicato and natural harmonics.
The Sound Study is a brief introduction to the contemporary notation of Krzysztof Penderecki. See Glossary. It is based on the earlier Sound Study for Eight Double Basses (B0105 and B0109-CD) which was premiered at the University of Miami in 1971. This work was respectfully dedicated to Mario di Bonaventura in appreciation for introducing this writer to many world-class composers and an extraordinary cross-section of the avant-garde literature during our association with the Congregation of The Arts at Dartmouth College 1967-1969.
Scherzo from Quarter Tones (B1202) - Rather than create an entirely new set of symbols for the twenty-four quarter tones of the octave, most 20th century composers of microtone music employ modified or auxiliary signs placed before conventional (round) noteheads. The use of the triangular shape-note is suggested. See Glossary for details.
Pisces is the final movement ofthe Zodiac Suite for Unaccompanied Double Bass. (BO104)
