This Sonata in one movement was originally written for flute and piano. Donizetti was primarily a composer of operas which are well established in the repertoire. The Sonata exemplifies Donizetti’s melodic style.
This work was introduced to me by flutist Laura Larson when we performed her arrangement with our Contemporary Baroque Trio (1977-82) - flute, piano (Valrie Marks Kantorski) and Double Bass (recorded on CD - Double Bass Sampler II - www.stfrancismusic.com (B0216-CD). There are also several performances by flutists on YouTube.
