Dohnanyi Theme with Variations (from Cello Sonata, Op. 8), Double Bass and Piano (Orchestra Tuning).
From the Publisher
The Sonata for Cello and Piano, Opus 8, was an early work of the Hungarian composer
Emo von Dohnanyi (1877-1961). Most of Dohnanyi’s early works were instrumental and non-descriptive. The "Theme and Variations" movement is the finale to his Opus 8 Cello Sonata.
In 1908 Dohnanyi was Professor of Piano at the Hochschule in Berlin and in 1919 was appointed Director of the Budapest Conservatory. After losing two sons in World War II he went to Austria in 1945. From 1949 to his death he was Professor of Piano and Composition at Florida State University (Tallahassee, Florida).
