Catalani was appointed Professor of Composition at the Milan Conservatory in 1888. “Ebben?... Ne andro lontana” (“Well, then? I’ll go far away”) from the opera LaWally (1892) gained popularity when a version was used in the 1981 film Diva. Catalani was principally known as a composer of operas. LaWally had four performances at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City during the 1908-09 season.
