From the Publisher
American baritone and composer H.T. Burleigh was born in Erie, PA. At the age of 26, with the help of E.C. MacDowell (wife of Edward MacDowell), he was granted a scholarship to the National Conservatory of Music in New York City.
He was a student of Antonin Dvorak, at that time Director of the Conservatory, and in 1893 assisted Dvorak in copying the orchestra parts to the New World Symphony. Burleigh graduated in 1896. At a later date, he became a faculty member of the Conservatory.
