Bach/Gounod Ave Maria for Double Bass & Piano

According to Arthur Jacobs in his New Dictionary of Music “the setting described as ‘Bach-Gounod’ consists of the first Prelude of Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ plus a melody which Gounod wrote over this (with the title ‘Meditation’): to this melody the words of the ‘Ave Maria’ were fitted by someone else.”

French composer Charles Gounod (1818-1893) is well known for his opera Faust and his important influence on the next generation of French composers, including Bizet, Faure, and Massenet.
