Joseph Achron (1886 - 1943) Russian-American violinist and composer, studied violin with Leopold Auer and harmony with Anatoly Liadoff at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia. He lived in the United States from 1925 until his death in 1943 in Hollywood CA.
His “Hebrew Melody” for Violin and Piano was made famous by Jascha Heifetz, Misha Elman and others. The original piano part is used in this transcription for cello or double bass. Efrem Zimbalist edited the original violin part Achron performed his Concerto for Violin with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Serge Koussevitzky in 1926.
