Born in Germany, Karl Friedrich Abel (1723 - 1787) was a member of an important family of musicians. He studied with J.S. Bach in Leipzig and later performed concerts in London for many years with his friend Johann Christian Bach.
Abel was one of the most celebrated performers on the viola da gamba. Also, he composed symphonies, overtures, sonatas, quartets, etc.
The keyboard part is reprinted from an earlier edition.
